A collaboration between the Lewis and the University of Maryland, College Park, this exhibition will unpack the stereotypical imagery of black women that still exist in popular culture. Throughout American history there have been many stereotypical caricatures that have been placed on black women. Among the most recurring designations are the Mammy, Jezebel, and the Angry Black Woman.
